HOUR OF POWER
From the East Coast to the West Coast... "HOUR OF POWER" presents a 60-minute pop punk—and everything in between—journey curated by Daniel Wong. This musical journey aims to shed the negative stigma often associated with music enthusiasts labeling it as a "guilty pleasure." Instead, we will delve deeply into the evolution of pop punk, tracing its origins from the 1980s American hardcore scene, with bands like the Descendents pioneering the melodic hardcore subgenre, to its eventual ascent to the mainstream in the 2000s, primarily driven by bands like blink-182—whose sound was heavily influenced by Descendents. The narrative continues into the 2010s, when pop punk once again returned to its underground roots, incorporating raw elements from its hardcore origins. Throughout this exploration, we will address the ongoing debate surrounding the authenticity of new TikTok pop punk artists and whether true pop punk can only be defined by its roots in the hardcore scene.
